Peter,60, has been a volunteer driver for 8 months for our Medical Car Service. A Partially funded scheme which transports elderly and vulnerable people to their medical appointments , it is supported by the hard work of volunteers, but Peter has proven dedicated above and beyond the call of duty. Peter a former events manager, became acquainted with the car service when he had a very serious car accident and used our services to attend his medical appointments. As a result of Peters accident he received 14 broken bones and could not move his knee. With use of our service’s he could get to appointments further afield and received support, with this he found the service really useful, cost effective and stress free. Now recovered and knowing how valuable this service is to people in a similar situation, he decided to give back to the community and commit two days a week to volunteer his services to patients needing to attend their medical appointments. He has took 90 members to their appointments which include long distance appointments. From using his own experiences he acts as an invaluable source of reassurance for patients who are going through similar challenges to their health, something not many volunteers provide . Even further, he acts as a friend and moral support for people who feel isolated or fearful by waiting with them.
